CLOSET ACCESSORIES. Use heavy-duty materials median
braced for heavy loads. Review the closet design requirements and electrical
requirements in the previous chapter. Provide living and bedroom closets with
vinyl clad metal shelves and hanging systems. Refer to paragraph 3-8 for closet
design.

SMART BUILDING SYSTEMS. Apply smart building concepts
using local loop technology. Avoid central controllers and monitors. Review
security requirements for the project.

ELEVATORS.
Freight elevators are used in
bachelor housing.
Freight elevators may be used for the movement of furnishings as well as
passengers. Passenger elevators are not to be used without approval. See
paragraph 3-13 for added area allowance for elevator construction.
For buildings one to three stories high, install a concrete pad at
ground level for installation of a temporary portable lift. Install
removable railings at the lift areas of each upper level.
For buildings four stories or higher, provide one freight-sized
service elevator. Additional elevators may be provided upon
approval for multi-level projects. Install removable railings at the lift
areas of each upper level. Install fall protection tie off points that
can be used when railings are removed.

HEATING, VENTILATING, AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC). Air
Conditioning is mandatory in all Navy and Marine Corps Bachelor Housing. With
the exception of open bay, HVAC should provide residents with individual choice
of heating and cooling year round within each living area. HVAC systems must
meet Energy Star/ FEMP standards of efficiency. The selection of the type of
HVAC system used for a housing project significantly impacts the initial
construction cost and the life cycle cost of the facility. An existing HVAC system

of the year.

Controls. Locate individual HVAC control units within each
living/sleeping area to minimize utility runs to the units. Provide heating or
cooling in any season without regard for operation of adjacent Apartments,
